Nicaragua expects to join BRICS this year or next

Nicaragua continues to express interest in cooperation with BRICS and will seek inclusion in the association during this or the next presidency. This was stated to Izvestia by Laureano Ortega, special representative of the President of Nicaragua for the development of relations with the Russian Federation.

"We understand that there are certain mechanisms within the association. Nicaragua has already officially submitted its application to join the BRICS. We hope that we will be able to achieve inclusion in the association during this or the next interim presidency," Laureano Ortega said.

Nicaragua hoped to join BRICS as a partner country under the Russian presidency, but this did not happen due to the lack of consensus among all members of the association.
