Pope Leo XIV called AI one of the most important problems of mankind
Pope Leo XIV, addressing the College of Cardinals on Saturday, May 10, called artificial intelligence (AI) one of the most important problems of mankind. This is reported by the Associated Press.
"Today, the church offers everyone a treasure trove of her social teachings in response to the next industrial revolution and developments in artificial intelligence, which pose new challenges in the field of protecting human dignity, justice and work," the pontiff said.
The Pope also explained that when choosing the name, he was based on the life path and achievements of Pope Leo III, who led the church from 1878 to 1903 and became the founder of modern Catholic social thought. In 1891, he criticized capitalism and the enslavement of people in enterprises.
As noted in the publication, continuing the conversation about the challenges that humanity faces with the development of AI, Leo XIV called on international organizations to develop documents regulating this technology.
The publication notes that Leo XIV promised in his address to continue the projects started by his predecessor Pope Francis. He will try not to stop the church's rapprochement with the "least and outcasts." Leo XIV also stated that the Catholic Church must become more inclusive.
The image of the coat of arms of the new pope was presented on the official page of the Vatican State Secretariat on social networks on May 10. It was noted that the coat of arms reflects his Augustinian roots and the values that he intends to promote during his pontificate, primarily unity and community within the Church.
