- Former Ambassador Denisov said that the Russian Federation benefits from the growing number of film projects with China
The growing number of joint film projects with China is beneficial for Russia, because now our actors are known and loved in China. On May 8, Senator Andrey Denisov, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to China, told Izvestia.
He noted that Chinese people love Russian cinema. According to him, several generations of Chinese were brought up on Soviet cinema. For a long time, the film "Lenin in October" was shown on Chinese television every year on November 7. The senator stressed that the PRC knew this movie and the phrases from it.
According to Denisov, China currently has the world's largest film market, with more than 1 billion people. He clarified that the world's leading studios and film producers are doing everything to get there, and Russia has succeeded.
In addition, the senator noted that Russian cinema is most suitable for China from an educational point of view, as well as because of the transmission of traditions to younger generations.
"Therefore, the fact that we are having more and more joint film projects now benefits both us — we understand China better and more — and our Chinese friends, because, I repeat, they are used to our cinema, to its style. They know our actors in China, they love them, and I'm sure they will enjoy watching these films. And we will also watch them together with our Chinese friends," he said.
Denisov noted that China's interest in Russian culture and history is not decreasing, so it is necessary to help develop cultural cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.
Earlier that day, NMG and CMG signed a cooperation agreement. According to Svetlana Balanova, CEO of NMG, the signing of the agreement is an important stage in the further development of bilateral relations, which will contribute to strengthening cultural and business cooperation between the Russian Federation and China.
On May 7, it became known that Andrei Volgin's joint Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" will be released in China in September 2025. The film's distributor is NMG Film Distribution (part of NMG Holding), the production was handled by Nota Bene Film Group and NMG.
On the same day, "Red Silk" became the first modern Russian painting to receive the "dragon Seal" for unlimited distribution in China. At the same time, Sinologist Sergey Mstislavsky noted that there is a lot of interest in the historical period reflected in the film in China, which ensures high box office receipts.
