Joseph Nye, the author of the concept of "soft power," an American political scientist and professor at Harvard University, has died at the age of 88. This was announced on May 7 by the press service of the John F. Kennedy School of Management at Harvard University.

"Joseph S. Nye Jr., professor emeritus at Harvard University, whose ideas about the nature of power in international relations influenced generations of politicians, scientists and students and made him one of the most famous political thinkers in the world, has died at the age of 88," the press service said.

The concept of "soft power" describes the ability of a State to achieve any set goals without using violence. The term itself also brought out Nye.

The professor was one of the leading ideologists of neoliberalism. He was a member of the Harvard team for over 60 years, holding various positions. In addition, Nye managed to work in the field of national security of the United States in the administrations of American ex-presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
