The interests of Russian manufacturers should be protected when Western companies return, while it is important to ensure a balance between freedom of competition and protection of businesses from the Russian Federation. Vladimir Putin said this on May 6 at a meeting with Alexey Repik, Chairman of Delovaya Rossiya. The Head of State also noted the successes of the e-commerce sector, which is rapidly developing in the country.

What was discussed at the meeting

The head of the business association presented a report on the state of the market to the president: he mainly pointed out the need to protect the interests of Russian manufacturers in the event of the resumption of activities by foreigners who had previously left our sites. After the start of its operations in February 2022, a number of large Western companies announced their withdrawal from Russia. "On the one hand, competition is always good, it makes us more productive, stronger, and so on. On the other hand, we consider it fair that the national interests of the Russian economy should be a priority, an absolute priority, when making any management decisions in this area," said Alexey Repik.

It is necessary to ensure a balance between freedom of competition and protection of Russian manufacturers when Western companies return, the president stressed. According to him, the analysis of possible formats for the return of organizations from unfriendly countries that have left the Russian market, taking into account the interests of Russian investors, is becoming "more and more relevant."

"There should be a balance between the development of competition and the protection of the national producer, especially if our national producers have invested in certain enterprises," Vladimir Putin said.

The head of the business association noted that online trading in the country is a powerful and competitive industry. Russian companies are becoming leaders in the countries of the former Soviet Union and entering the markets of friendly countries. "It is developing by leaps and bounds," the head of state concluded. At the same time, it is important to maintain a balance between offline and electronic commerce.
