The administration of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva wants to replace the United States as a mediator in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported on May 5 by the newspaper O Globo, citing sources in the government of the country.

According to the newspaper, Lula da Silva's upcoming visit to Moscow to participate in the Victory Day celebrations should demonstrate the independence of Brazil's foreign policy.

"Lula is expected to tell [Russian President Vladimir] Putin Putin was informed that Brazil has the authority to actively participate in the mediation of a peace agreement between the Russians and Ukrainians," the publication says.

It is noted that, according to the Brazilian authorities, Washington has not fulfilled its promises to de-escalate the Ukrainian conflict.

On May 1, it was reported that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had sent letters to the President of Brazil at least six times in a year and a half asking for a meeting, but had not received a response to any of them. Among other things, the head of the Kiev regime asked Silva for an invitation to the G20 summit, which was held in Rio de Janeiro in October 2024, but this request was ignored.
