Scholz wished good luck to Merz before appointing a new German Chancellor
In his farewell speech, outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wished the leader of the alliance of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), as well as the candidate for the post of prime Minister Friedrich Merz good luck. The broadcast was carried out on the government YouTube channel Phoenix.
"Dear Mr. Merz, I wish you great success and good luck in all the tasks and challenges that you and your government will face! In the difficult hours that will surely come, I wish you meetings from which you can draw strength and confidence," said Scholz.
According to the outgoing German Chancellor, during his reign, he and his entourage have repeatedly assumed serious responsibility in solving national and international issues. Scholz wished the new administration to be united and zealous in solving the inevitable difficulties.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on May 5 that Merz's statements did not signal his desire to follow the path of normalization of relations with Russia. Answering a question from Izvestia about Russia's readiness to work with the new German authorities, he stressed that Moscow would be guided by the words and, above all, the actions of the new chancellor.
