Answering a question from journalists about whether Ukraine should make territorial concessions, the American leader noted that the state had lost many territories and it would be very difficult to regain control over them.
As for further tightening of anti-Russian sanctions, the US president will be ready to discuss this issue later, without rushing into premature decisions.
"I would prefer to answer this question in a week, I want to see if we can make a deal. There's no reason to answer it now," Trump said.
He added that he hopes for an early settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and the conclusion of a peace treaty. The American leader also drew attention to the fact that Russia, in turn, does not hinder the peace process.
The US President also noted that he considers the issue of the participation of the Russian Federation and Ukraine in the settlement negotiations to be important. At the same time, he has his own deadline for the possible achievement of a peaceful situation. And if the situation does not improve and does not enter a certain framework, Trump warned, "we will start behaving completely differently."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier in the day that Russia appreciates the mediation services provided by Trump and his administration in the negotiation process on the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, work is underway to resolve the conflict. The Russian Federation aims to continue the settlement process. Russian President Vladimir Putin stands for achieving peace while ensuring the interests of the country, Peskov added.
