- The Prime Minister of Canada declared the country's readiness to become a world leader instead of the United States.

Canada is ready to take on the role of a global leader in trade and economic cooperation instead of the United States and will achieve much greater success in this direction. This was announced on April 3 by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The politician stated that the large-scale trade duties imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump on imports would destroy the global economy and negatively affect economic growth.
"If the United States no longer wants to be a leader, Canada will be one. The 80-year period when the United States assumed the role of global economic leader and created alliances based on trust and respect is over. Although this is a tragedy, it is also a new reality," The New York Times quoted Carney as saying.
The Canadian Prime Minister said he would try to form a coalition of countries that are ready to look for an alternative to a trade partnership with the United States, the Newspaper adds.Ru». This is necessary because Washington is no longer able to defend the free and open exchange of goods and services.
"We can achieve more than the United States. How this will manifest itself depends on how much damage they inflict on their economy," the head of the Canadian government added.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For Europe, this figure has been increased to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
The next day, the Chinese authorities decided to impose retaliatory duties of 34% on goods imported from the United States. At the same time, Carney said that Canada would impose duties of 25% on all imported cars from the United States that are not subject to the North American Trade Agreement (USMCA). He noted that the new import duties are a direct violation of the trade agreements that Trump discussed and promoted in his first term.
