The Chinese authorities have decided to impose retaliatory duties of 34% on goods imported from the United States. This was reported on April 4 by the Global Times newspaper with reference to the Tariff Commission of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.

"Additional tariffs will take effect on April 10," the publication says.

It is specified that goods that were shipped before April 10 and arrived in China no later than May 13 will not be subject to duties. The commission called on the United States to abandon tariff measures and resolve trade differences through consultations.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on April 3 that China would respond to the duties imposed by US President Donald Trump and protect its rights.

On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
