The decision to deploy American missiles in Germany in 2026 is consistent with the logic of the national security strategy adopted in October 2023. This was stated to Izvestia at the German Embassy in Moscow.

"The decision to deploy American long—range conventional weapons systems in Germany is consistent with the logic of the national security strategy adopted by the federal government in October 2023 in response to the increased threat from Russia," the German diplomats said.

According to them, Russia has "long ago" increased its military potential through long-range missiles, cruise missiles, both conventional and capable of delivering nuclear warheads. The Russian Federation "has clearly demonstrated that it is ready to use armed force, ignoring international agreements," the German embassy noted.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechaev said that the deployment of American Tomahawk missiles in Germany was a dangerous and counterproductive step.

"This will certainly lead to an escalation. It is completely unclear to me why, in particular, the German government is doing this. This step is dangerous and counterproductive, and most importantly, it will in no way lead to an increase in the security threshold of Germany itself," the diplomat said.

In July 2024, the United States and Germany agreed on the "episodic deployment" of medium-range missiles in Germany at the July NATO summit. According to Washington, the process will begin in 2026. In particular, we are talking about the SM-6 and Tomahawk.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously warned that if the United States deployed high-precision missile systems in Germany, Russia would consider itself free from the previously assumed unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium and shorter-range strike weapons, including increasing the capabilities of the coastal forces of the Russian Navy.
