On March 19, a congress of one of Russia's five parliamentary political forces, the New People Party, was held in the center of Moscow. Its history began relatively recently: it was formed in 2020 — the main slogan was "politics with a human face." The party became widely known in 2021: in the elections to the State Duma of the VIII convocation, the political force received 15 deputy mandates. Thus, it became the first new party in more than 20 years to enter parliament, complementing the traditional political forces present there: United Russia, the Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and Just Russia — For Truth.

On the one hand, we have created 79 regional branches, 580 deputies of the "New People" work in the State Duma, legislative assemblies and municipal deputies, 167 laws have been adopted, where the "New People" are the authors or co—authors. In particular, they vied with each other to share with journalists the successes of their work: how many regions they had visited, how many people they had helped, and how many laws they had initiated. The congress culminated with a speech by the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration, Sergei Kiriyenko. He read out the address and congratulations of the President of Russia to the representatives of the political force.

The party's representatives demonstrate a balanced and businesslike approach to their ideas: they propose specific programs and initiatives aimed at developing science, education and healthcare, as well as supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening citizens' rights and freedoms, the head of state stressed.

— Indeed, as you stated when you created the party five years ago, you were able to become an open door and a political elevator for many people, which allowed people to get involved in politics who had never done this before, before the appearance of the New People party, and believed, in general, that this was not their job. It does not apply to them," Sergey Kiriyenko added on his own behalf.

Speaking of innovations, the party presented its digital assistant for regional officials, Neuromere, at the congress. As Sardana Avksentieva, a State Duma deputy and deputy head of the New People faction, told Izvestia, AI can now take over the routine of reports or documents.

New People found its position as the party of common sense, the party of the urban population, people with non-standard political positions and was able to involve such people in politics, experts say.

— This is very important, because if they start to drop out of politics, it can lead to the most negative consequences. But people believed in the party and followed it. Basically, I can see from the congress that there are a lot of people who usually don't meet at the congresses of other parties, because they just don't believe that it works somehow," said political analyst Dmitry Yelovsky.

Now the party is clearly working for an audience that wants to develop the country. There has long been a demand in Russia for the emergence of a new alternative force that would represent the interests of a stratum that used to be conventionally called "angry townspeople." The New People party was able to reach this audience, said Oleg Bondarenko, director of the Progressive Policy Foundation.

According to political analysts, the party has a good chance of getting at least 10% of the vote in the 2026 State Duma elections.
