Romeo & Juliet 18+

Directed by Ivan Lyrchikov. Starring: Alyona Snezhkova, Ivan Lyrchikov, Marianna Toropchina, Peter Kozhevnikov, Kristina Luchina, Maria Sarasek, Lyudmila Purim and others.

The roaring twenties of the USA, mafia fights, prohibition, cigarettes as a symbol of freedom, permissiveness, impunity, euphoria. The USA is a "paradise on earth" where driving music is always blaring, and shootings on the streets have become commonplace. Where two mafia clans: the Montagues and the Capulets share territory and enjoy the carnage.

Where the good old puritanical America has become a thing of the past, and it has been replaced by a depraved and cheerful one. Where everyone is euphoric and reveling in it. But every euphoria ends with depression—the "Great Depression." The performance immerses you in the atmosphere of 1929: noisy, cheerful, driving, the last before a social and personal tragedy and, of course, Shakespearean passions. If you are sure that you have seen "Romeo and Juliet", if you absolutely know exactly what this play is about, come on, the MEL Theater has something to surprise you with.
