Easy already: sales of summer clothes jumped due to warm spring

Russians were buying shorts, T-shirts, skirts, sundresses and other summer clothes much more actively this spring than a year earlier, online platforms noticed. They attribute the growing interest in summer and mid—season clothing to the abnormally warm start of spring - temperature records were recorded throughout the country, and in the southern regions the thermometer columns even approached 30 degrees. However, it is worthwhile to switch to lighter clothes in the off-season carefully, preferring layering in order to avoid health problems against the background of weakened immunity in winter, the doctors reminded.
What kind of clothes are bought in the spring
The abnormally warm start of spring in Central Russia has led to a sharp demand for demi-seasonal and summer clothes, according to data from online market analysts available to Izvestia. Sales of light clothing began to grow rapidly, by an average of 30-45% compared to the same period last year.
So, in early March, sales of windbreakers and half-coats doubled, well suited for temperatures around +10 degrees, Wildberries calculated. Sales of demi-season shoes (half-boots, half-boots) jumped by 40-44%. Separately, analysts calculated the demand for sneakers — 42% more were bought. Russians also actively bought loafers — 72% more than last year.
"Windbreakers and jackets for kids showed an increase of 48% and 89%," the company added.
In March of this year, shorts (+40% compared to last year), bomber jackets (+44% year-on-year), sweatshirts and T-shirts (+42%), jeans (+41%), trousers (+26%) and shirts (+23%) were actively purchased, according to the data "Avito". This spring, it is men who are more willing than women to update their wardrobe, they calculated.
— Among women's clothing, sales of summer sundresses, shirts, blouses and skirts showed a special increase. Also, relative to last year, Russians in March are more likely to purchase light outerwear — jackets and windbreakers, raincoats and trench coats, the analysts of the site noted.
In addition, women started buying summer shoes earlier this year. So, in the first half of March, sales of clogs and mules increased by 29% compared to the same period last year, and moccasins and loafers — by 11%.
In the first two weeks of March, sales of both artificial and natural fur coats decreased by about a third year-on-year, Wildberries analysts estimated. Sales of CNTs and snow boots also fell by 30-35%.
— The trend did not affect only the sale of goods for winter sports. The turnover of ski and snowboard boots and jackets increased by 20-25%, markteplace analysts noted.
When will the heat return
The beginning of spring turned out to be rich in temperature records across the country, meteorologists noted. So, on March 14, more than 80 of them were installed, said Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center.
— In places, such as Kolomna and Tambov, previous records have been overlapped with a fair margin for the future, by 4-5 degrees. And in Penza, this excess was eight degrees," he said.
Temperature records were set in March even in the Arctic, the meteorologist added.
— It's not so much about the number of records, as about their quality. For example, positive temperatures were recorded on Dixon Island two weeks earlier than in all previous years of observations," he stressed.
A new absolute record of maximum temperature for March was set in Krasnodar.
— Only one tenth was not enough to reach +30 degrees. Previously, the temperature reached 30 degrees for the first time only on April 2. That is, she ran two weeks ahead of time," stressed Alexander Shuvalov.
Records were broken by 9-12 degrees, he noted, calling such figures prohibitive.
In Moscow and the region, the first half of March turned out to be 6-7 degrees warmer than long-term values, added Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency.
— During the first 16 days, the average air temperature at the VDNKh weather station was +4.5 degrees. This happens in Moscow once every seven years," she said.
At the same time, the warmest beginning of spring in the capital was recorded ten years ago — in 2015, when the average air temperature was +6.2 degrees.
By March 17, the capital region was in the rear of the cyclone. The newly formed snow cover will linger almost until the end of the astronomical winter, that is, until March 20, believes Tatiana Pozdnyakova. However, by Sunday, March 23, the thermometer may rise to +12 degrees.
How to dress according to the weather
In order not to get sick in the spring, you need to dress according to the season, Olga Shuppo, founder and scientific director of the Grand Clinic network of immunorehabilitation, adaptive and preventive medicine clinics, reminded. She recommended switching to lighter clothes gradually.
— It is better to make a choice in favor of layering, keep your head and feet warm. Preference should be given to natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Such fabrics absorb moisture well and let in air," the doctor emphasized.
Temperature changes can increase the body's susceptibility to certain diseases, she recalled. So, the most frequent companions of spring are acute respiratory viral infections and flu. The causative agents of these diseases are transmitted by airborne droplets through contact with a sick person. Therefore, according to the doctor, it is important to maintain immunity during this period.
— First of all, you need to switch to proper nutrition, avoiding harmful products, in some cases dairy products. Excess meat, fatty, smoked, sweet — all this can acidify the body, cause inflammation and imbalance of the hormonal system," Olga Shuppo emphasized.
It is also important to normalize sleep patterns.
— Sleepless nights lead to the fact that the body will be susceptible to microbes and the development of negative internal factors during the day, — the doctor emphasized.
During the spread of viral diseases, physical activity in the fresh air can additionally support the immune system, she added. In addition, in the spring, most modern people experience a deficiency of certain vitamins and trace elements, so it would not be superfluous to visit a specialist to prescribe the necessary tests and adjust their diet.
