The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched the Intuitive Machines lunar module called Athena from launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. On board the mission is a set of NASA technologies and scientific instruments, along with commercial payloads heading to the Moon as part of the agency's CLPS initiative and the Artemis campaign," the statement said.
It is specified that during the space mission, the NASA Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft will be launched and put into orbit, which will map the distribution of various forms of water on the Moon. At the same time, the lunar module will study organic and inorganic compounds using the TRIDENT ground drilling rig and the MSolo mass spectrometer.
It is also planned to deliver the first-ever Nokia 4G cellular communication station outside the Earth to the Moon.
"Athena is expected to land on the lunar surface on Thursday, March 6," NASA said.
About the US plans the launch of the module on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket became known on January 24. So, the device will carry five NASA scientific research instruments to study the interaction of the plume with the surface, space weather, radio astronomy, precision landing technologies, and have a communications and navigation center for the implementation of future autonomous navigation technologies.
