Sandu admits accepting credentials of Russian ambassador appointed in September in the near future

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has admitted that she will accept the credentials of the Russian ambassador appointed in September. She told local TV channel TV8 on February 7.

It was specified there that the new Russian ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov has not yet presented his credentials to the country's president in order to fully assume his duties.

According to Sandu, this procedure has been delayed due to the alleged "large number of false and unfriendly statements of the Kremlin to the Republic of Moldova."

Nevertheless, the president added that the decision on the ambassador's accreditation will be officially adopted soon.

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Oleg Ozerov as Russian ambassador to Moldova on September 10, 2024.

According to Moldovan media, after arriving in Chisinau, the new ambassador waited for three weeks to hand over copies of his credentials to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, while handing over their originals to Sandu has been going on for four months.

In February, Ozerov said that Moscow was ready for an equal and constructive dialog with Chisinau. The Russian ambassador expressed confidence that the West would come to understand the need to build a new model of economic ties and security on the Eurasian continent together with Russia.
