Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region Dronov appointed Acting Head of the Region
First Deputy Governor of the Novgorod region Alexander Dronov has become acting head of the region after the resignation of Andrei Nikitin. This was reported by the head of the Governor's press service Nikolai Shestakov in his Telegram channel on February 7.
"Acting head of the region in accordance with the distribution of powers will be First Deputy Governor of the Novgorod region Alexander Dronov," the statement reads.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Andrei Nikitin from the post of head of the Novgorod region. The release from office was carried out at Nikitin's own request.
Later, the press service of the Russian government reported that the ex-governor became Deputy Minister of Transportation. In his farewell video Nikitin thanked the residents of the Novgorod region for their support and promised that he would responsibly fulfill the tasks in his new position.
Nikitin took office as governor of the Novgorod region on October 14, 2017. Before that, since February 13 of the same year, he had been the interim governor of the region by decree of the President of the Russian Federation.
