A doctor has pointed out the harms of mixing different types of alcohol
Mixing different types of alcohol, which are prepared according to different technologies, can lead to a stronger intoxication and a severe hangover. This was stated on February 7 by Olga Mayorova, a gastroenterologist at the clinic "Bud Zdorov" in St. Petersburg.
"Alcohol obtained by fermentation (for example, beer or wine) contains more syrupy oils and congeners than distilled drinks (for example, vodka or whiskey). Congeners are chemicals formed during the fermentation process other than ethanol. These compounds are responsible for imparting flavor and aroma to an alcoholic beverage and include methanol, tannins, acetaldehydes, etc. "Mixing these two types can lead to a stronger intoxication and a more severe hangover," Mayorova told Gazeta.Ru.
According to her, this is due to the process of production of alcoholic beverages, during which toxic impurities are formed, which after entering the body lead to severe consequences due to the inability of the liver to timely neutralize the accumulated toxins.
In addition, such mixing of alcoholic beverages can lead to an increase in the unconscious consumption of booze. Mayorova noted that this is due to the strength level of each drink and its flavor profile.
Earlier, on January 16, gastroenterologist, expert physician of the laboratory "Hemotest" Ekaterina Kashukh told "Izvestia" that overeating and alcohol negatively affect health and can lead to exacerbation of chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). In addition, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages can lead to alcoholic hepatitis.
