A weather forecaster denied reports of dramatic climate change and lack of snow
Media reports that Russians will face winters without snow in the next 30 years are an attempt to attract attention - climate change will not be so significant. This was stated by Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo prognosticating center, in a conversation with Izvestia on February 7.
"This is a hype of pure water. Winters will change, but these changes will not be as noticeable as the media notes say. There is a gradual increase in the average annual temperature, especially the temperature in the middle zone of the European part of Russia in the winter months increases," he specified.
Thus, in Moscow for the last 30 years the temperature rise has amounted to 3 degrees, and the trend will continue until the end of the XXI century. The interlocutor of the publication did not rule out that by the end of the current century it will be possible to observe zero temperature in January.
"However, there will be snow," Shuvalov emphasized.
Earlier, on January 16, the scientific head of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand at a press conference in the Izvestia IEC said that spring in Moscow will come early, because of the small amount of snow, the air will begin to warm up faster.
Before that, on January 14, Vilfand predicted a complete snowfall in some areas of Moscow. He specified that such weather is unusual for January. According to Wilfand, this is due to the fact that the central regions of the European part of Russia receive air masses from the southern Atlantic, northern Africa and the Mediterranean Sea.
