WP reported on Britain's request to Apple for access to encrypted iCloud data
British security services have requested from the American company Apple access to encrypted data from the iCloud cloud storage of users around the world. This was reported by The Washington Post on February 7, citing sources.
"UK security officials have requested that Apple create a backdoor that allows them to extract all content uploaded to the cloud by any Apple user around the world," the publication wrote.
The author of the article suggested that Apple would simply abandon encryption of cloud storage in order not to break its promise to secure user data. However, even in this case, the company will not get rid of the requirements to provide access to user data in other countries, the publication notes.
Apple and the UK authorities have not commented on this information in any way.
In November 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned of mass hacking of iPhones by fraudsters under the guise of installing applications removed from the AppStore. The agency specified that the scheme of deception consists in the victim's entry of the attacker's iCloud data allegedly for further installation of inaccessible applications from the AppStore. The service is not supported, and fraudsters demand a huge amount of money for unlocking the phone.
