Central Bank: the new thousandth banknote is planned to be issued at the end of 2025

The new thousandth banknote will be presented at the end of 2025. This was reported in the press-service of the Central Bank (CB) of Russia on February 7.

"The Bank of Russia plans to present an updated banknote of 1000 rubles at the end of 2025", - said in Telegram-channel.

Also in the regulator explained the reason for the introduction of banknotes with denominations of 5 and 10 rubles.

The Central Bank of Russia noted that at the moment Russians more often use paper money, not change. In addition, banknotes take up less space and are more convenient for transportation.

"Now they (banknotes. - Ed.) are additionally covered with protective varnish, which allows to increase their service life. Printing of such banknotes eventually became more profitable than minting of coins," the press service added.

In December 2024, it was reported that the Central Bank of Russia postponed the release date of the updated banknotes of 10, 50 and 500 rubles due to a change in the approach to the development of banknotes. They are planned to be issued until 2028. The press service reported that the new banknotes will not be put into circulation immediately, as it will take some time to adapt the equipment.
