The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has said that it found "Russian propaganda" in the popular song "Sigma Boy" and called it "part of information warfare". The press service of the Ukrainian agency said this in its official Telegram channel on February 7.

The CPD believes that the song "blurs the critical attitude towards Russian content and promotes its return to the global cultural space", and at the same time "creates a positive image of Russia among young people".

"The concept of 'sigma man' describes a hero independent in himself who acts according to his own rules and this image coincides with the Russian propaganda of the cult of 'strong arm'," the video on the agency's social media follows.

The song "Sigma Boy" was released in October 2024. It quickly became viral on social networks. In January, the track took the seventh line of the international music chart Billboard. The composition entered the ranking of pop music and dance songs.

Earlier, on January 26, German politician, member of the European Parliament from the party "Volt Europe" Nela Riehl called to ban "Sigma Boy" because the song allegedly helps spread pro-Russian and patriarchal views.

On January 29, Evgeny Schmidt, an MP from the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party, told Izvestia that the proposal voiced in the European Parliament to ban the song "Sigma Boy" sung by two Russian schoolgirls is a manifestation of anti-Russian propaganda. Schmidt said he saw no reason to think that the song could be used for propaganda against Europe.

After, on January 31, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a briefing called the statements of politicians in Europe about the Russian song "Sigma Boy " "clinical Russophobia." She added that the banning of the song was utter madness.
