Sales of new trucks in Russia fell by 27%

In January 2025 in Russia the sales of trucks decreased by 27% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 5.5 thousand cars. This was reported by the analytical agency "Autostat" on February 7.

Sales of medium-capacity trucks (MCV) were 13% lower than a year ago and amounted to 1.06 thousand units, and large-capacity trucks fell by 30% to 4.44 thousand units.

Three quarters of all sold medium-duty trucks fell to three brands - GAZ (361 units), KamAZ (276 units) and JAC (165 units). At the same time, no brand has not overcome the mark of 100 sold units. Among the models, GAZ GAZon Next remained the leader in the MCV segment with a share of about 21%.

Over 75% of total sales of large-capacity trucks belong to five brands: Sitrak (1.13 thousand units), KamAZ (1.05 thousand units), Shacman (517 units), FAW (424 units) and MAZ (271 units). The most popular HCV model was again Sitrak C7H truck, the share of which in January amounted to slightly more than a quarter.

The day before it was reported that the General Prosecutor's Office initiated an unscheduled supervisory control measure (SCM) in relation to the company LLC "Shacman Motors", which represents the Chinese brand of commercial vehicles Shacman in Russia. The reason for the inspection was the presence of information about "causing or imminent threat of causing harm to life and serious or moderate harm.

February 5, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov said about the need for more rigorous work on certification and compliance testing of Chinese vehicles. According to him, such an analysis has already been carried out on trucks, which revealed serious violations for vehicles of three Chinese brands.
