Extending vacation: the State Duma proposed to make Trinity and Easter days off

There are many weekends and holidays in Russia, on which you can rest or even have time to go somewhere. However, there is often no extra day off when it comes to professional or church holidays. Now the days after Easter and Trinity may become official days off, the corresponding bill is already in the development of deputies. Read more about the initiative, as well as other holiday weekends in 2025 - in the material "Izvestia".
Whether Easter and Trinity will become days off
On Friday, February 7, it became known that the State Duma is developing a bill under which Easter and Trinity may become official days off. The proposal was made by the first deputy head of the faction "Just Russia - Patriots - For Truth" in the Duma Dmitry Gusev. Since the holidays themselves fall on Sunday, it is a question of making the Mondays after them additional days off.
Almost all church holidays do not imply additional days off, the exception is Christmas, the Ministry of Labor specifies. If the law is passed, then, according to the deputy, it will allow relatives and loved ones to spend more time together, including Easter and Trinity.
"These are not just holidays, but bright moments of life, filled with joy, warmth of heart and family traditions. To make these days even more meaningful, we are preparing and will introduce a bill," said Dmitry Gusev.
When Easter and Trinity in 2025
Easter, or Christ's Resurrection, is considered the most important church holiday. Every year its date changes, in 2025 Easter falls on April 20 and the Orthodox and Catholics. The date depends on the lunar and solar calendar. In 325, it was established that the Resurrection of Christ will be celebrated on the first Sunday after the first spring full moon (and not earlier than the vernal equinox, which falls on March 21).
In modern times, Easter is always celebrated between April 4 and May 8.
Trinity is one of the most important bipedal feasts and is celebrated 50 days after Easter. In 2025, Trinity falls on June 8.
Despite the fact that both holidays have different dates each year, they still fall on Sunday.
When Russians have a vacation in 2025
The second month of 2025 has already come, and it is from him that the series of holidays begins, when Russians can go to work a little less than usual. However, according to the production calendar for the year 2025, additional days off are not expected in the near future.
According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, non-working holidays in Russia at the moment are the following:
- New Year vacations (January 1-6, 8);
- Christmas Day (January 7);
- Defender of the Fatherland Day (February 23);
- International Women's Day (March 8);
- Spring and Labor Day (May 1);
- Victory Day (May 9);
- Russia Day (June 12);
- People's Unity Day (November 4).
If any holidays fall on a day off, they are postponed to the next working day after the holiday, or to other dates.
In 2025, Russians in February will not get an additional day off in honor of Defender of the Fatherland Day because it fell on a Sunday. Instead, the day off was moved to Thursday, May 8.
The same situation occurred with International Women's Day. Since the holiday itself fell on Saturday, the Friday before it will be shortened, and the day off was moved to Friday, June 13.
Because of these postponements, it turned out that in April and May Russians will have two working weeks lasting only three days. Thus, the last week in April will last from Monday to Wednesday (from 28 to 30), the last day will be shortened. The next week will also be short and will run from May 5 to 7, this time the last working day will not be shortened.
The next long weekend for Russians will be in June. All those who work on a standard five-day schedule will go to work on the 9th, 10th and 11th, and then will rest for four consecutive days.
After that, no additional days off are expected for several months. Only in November will there be three consecutive days off, but they will be preceded by a six-day work week that will begin on October 27 and end with a shortened day on November 1. The 2nd through 4th will be days off.
