Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, in case he returns to power, may follow in the footsteps of US President Donald Trump and announce his withdrawal from a number of international organizations. This is reported by the Folha de São Paulo newspaper.

"If I become president again, I will withdraw from BRICS and WHO," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

In addition to withdrawing from international organizations, Bolsonaro also announced his intention to conclude a "tough military agreement" with the United States to end the presence of terrorists and smugglers on the triple border, the area where the Iguazu and Paraná rivers meet, where the borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay converge.

"I will authorize the deployment of a USmilitary base there," he said of his plans.

The newspaper emphasizes that Bolsonaro does not have the rights to become president in the near future - Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) disqualified him from running until 2030. However, the newspaper's sources say, he is confident that he "will have the political conditions" to overturn this decision in order to participate in the 2026 elections.

It is noted that Bolsonaro will not be the first president in Latin America to take such measures. Earlier, Argentine President Javier Milay announced the country's withdrawal from the WHO following the United States.

On February 5, current Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva accused the U.S. of genocide in the Gaza Strip. The Brazilian leader emphasized that the reconstruction of Gaza should be led by the Palestinians themselves. In addition, Brazil remains in favor of the establishment of an independent state of Palestine as part of the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Earlier, on January 6, the Brazilian government announced Indonesia as a new full member of BRICS. It is specified that the countries of the bloc approved Indonesia's accession by consensus in accordance with the guidelines, criteria and procedures for membership expansion.

Brazil's BRICS chairmanship began on January 1 this year and will last until December 31
