Car parts from Europe and Japan have risen in price by 30-50% over the year
In 2024, a significant increase in prices for both original and non-original spare parts for cars of European and Japanese brands, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Volkswagen, has been recorded. This primarily concerns body parts, optics, electronics and complex units such as automatic transmissions and engines, Dmitry Gusev, head of product marketing for the Lecar brand, told Izvestia on February 7.
"Prices for spare parts of European and Japanese brands have increased most significantly - on average by 30-50% over the past year. The reason is difficulties with logistics and parallel imports, as well as currency fluctuations. Chinese brand spare parts, on the contrary, remain more affordable, as manufacturers continue to operate officially in the Russian market. However, some positions, especially original parts, also showed growth, but it was less pronounced compared to European brands - about 10-20%," Dmitry Gusev told Izvestia.
Delays in component deliveries remain, especially for brands that have officially left the Russian market. These delays are due to logistical difficulties and production constraints, which leads to longer transportation and order processing times. This problem concerns original parts for popular European brands of premium segment, such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, as well as some popular Japanese and European brands (Toyota, Nissan, Renault, Honda). Rare components and electronic modules have to wait the longest, as they often require delivery via third countries, the Lecar representative explained.
Alternative imports allowed saturating the spare parts market in Russia, but its impact on prices was ambiguous, the expert noted. Additional volumes of spare parts have helped to reduce the deficit, but this process is not always stable and can depend on many factors, including logistical difficulties and changes in international politics.
"Also, parallel imports allowed to create some competition among suppliers, which in theory should have helped to curb price growth. However, in practice we have seen an increase in prices for spare parts both for brands that have left the Russian market and for Chinese brands. It has also led to a greater distribution of non-original and analog parts of varying and sometimes questionable quality," Gusev added.
January 31, it was reported that the Russian car plant Haval is building a cluster for the production of automotive components in the Tula region. Today, the area of the company's production complex is 183.2 thousand square meters and includes stamping, welding, painting and assembly shop, components production shop, as well as an engine plant.
