It is not recommended to feed smoked, sour and fried foods to children under a year old. On February 6, Elizaveta Dautova, pediatrician at SM-Clinica for Children, told about when and how to properly introduce new foods into a child's diet.

According to her, the transition from breastfeeding to a common table, that is complementary feeding, should begin, taking into account the individual characteristics of the child.

If he shows interest in food, sits independently, grabs food with his hands or removes food from the spoon - the child is ready for the introduction of new products in his diet. This usually happens at the age of about six months, the doctor explained.

"If we talk about the products with which it is worth starting complementary foods, you can start with both baby dairy-free porridge and vegetable (zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower) or fruit purees. It is important to pay attention to the added sugar in purees, children under a year old should not be offered products with added sugar", - said Dautova in conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

She noted that it is important to introduce products gradually and carefully observe the reaction of the body.

"There are products that should not be offered to a child under 1 year old. This is honey (risk of botulism), whole cow and goat milk, raw animal products up to 5 years (raw fish, meat, eggs), mushrooms, sauces, drinks with sugar, caffeine, home canned food, plant milk and products with high sugar and salt content", - the expert emphasized.

Until a year is also not recommended to offer children smoked, sour, fried, the doctor added. She advised to "postpone" fried cutlets or sauerkraut shields until the age of three, and homemade mashed potatoes to offer the child only closer to a year.

According to Dautova, potatoes contain a lot of starch and nitrates, which requires proper heat treatment. To introduce mashed potatoes into children's diet, it is necessary to choose ripe fruits and not to add salt, sugar, cream or cow's milk, she explained.

Earlier, in October last year, doctor-gastroenterologist "SM-Clinica" for children Tatyana Kharkina told "Izvestia" how to choose useful sweets for a child. She noted that desserts for children should contain natural sugars and advised to pay attention to dried fruits, marmalade, marshmallows, marshmallows and candies containing dried fruits and nuts.
