The Argentine authorities have decided to ban sex reassignment surgeries and hormone therapy for people under 18 years of age. This was reported on February 6 by the speaker of the presidential administration of the country Manuel Adorni.

"The national government has also decided to change the law on gender identity and ban hormone treatment and body adaptation surgeries in children under 18," he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

Adorni emphasized that these interventions pose a serious risk to both physical and mental health, as they contribute to "interrupting the process of growing up." At the same time, he specified that in many cases the consequences of procedures and operations are irreversible.

"Pioneering countries in the field of sex reassignment, such as Great Britain, Sweden, Finland and, until recently, the United States prohibit minors from undergoing these procedures, as they are considered irreversible and lead to long-term devastating consequences," the speaker added.

Earlier, on January 28, American President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning the funding of sex reassignment surgeries for persons under the age of 19. It was specified that the children who changed sex will soon regret that "they were disfigured" and will realize the tragedy of not being able to have children of their own. They may also face lifelong medical complications.
