The first director of the U.S. AI security institute has left her post
In the United States, the first director of the Artificial Intelligence Security Institute (AISI) Elizabeth Kelly has left her position. This was reported by Reuters on February 5.
"Elizabeth Kelly, the first director of the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Security Institute, is stepping down from her post on Wednesday, she announced in a post on LinkedIn. The move leaves open the question of leading a new government agency under President Donald Trump," the agency reported.
Kelly was appointed to the post a year ago. Her responsibilities included overseeing the institute's work to assess and counter risks associated with the emergence of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
She is also credited with forging agreements with startups OpenAI and Anthropic that allowed the institute to test their new AI models before releasing them to the public.
"I am confident that AISI's future is bright and its mission remains vital to the future of AI innovation," the former director wrote in her LinkedIn account (the social network is banned in Russia).
The Artificial Intelligence Security Institute, founded under the administration of former US President Joe Biden, is part of the US Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology.
On January 30, the U.S. reported that confidential data from China's DeepSeek neural network was made publicly available. As a result, programmers gained full control over the base, which was completely open and disclosed sensitive data.
Earlier, on January 22, US President Donald Trump announced the creation of the company Stargate for investment in AI. It will develop projects for AI development in Texas. It is expected that the initial investments will amount to $100 billion, and then exceed this amount five times.
On the same day, UN Secretary General António Guterres named artificial intelligence among the main threats to humanity. According to him, AI can ruin economies and free markets, undermine trust in various institutions, and its ability to influence the battlefield causes chilling fear.
