Guards Sergeant Ilmir Khairullin covered the attack of assault units, which allowed Russian troops to break through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and gain a foothold on new borders. The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday, February 6, described the exploits of Russian servicemen in the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone.

Khairullin was ordered to provide camouflage for Russian armored vehicles during the combat encounter. When the Russian Armed Forces attack aircraft landed in a forest belt, the guardsman diverted the enemy's attention by creating a number of smoke screens. The AFU opened fire on the decoys, and the Russian assault teams were able to safely approach the target.

The AFU offensive was covered by an aerosol smoke screen system operated by Khairullin. As a result, the AFU defense was successfully broken through.

The Russian Defense Ministry also noted the high professionalism of Guards Major Andrei Chuvashov, who commanded a motorized rifle battalion during the capture of AFU positions near one of the settlements.

Chuvashov developed a tactic that resulted in the Russian assault units successfully attacking the flanks and penetrating the enemy rear. At the same time, the main forces of the Russian Armed Forces conducted a rapid frontal attack. The blow from several sides disorganized the enemy at once. Panic broke out in the ranks of the AFU, which eventually led to their retreat.

Earlier, on February 5, the ministry reported that Guards junior lieutenant Ivan Morsky, together with his group, sneaked into the rear of the AFU positions to storm a fortified point of the enemy, which as a result was taken and cleared without any casualties in Morsky's group.

Before that, on February 4, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Guards Sergeant Alexander Putilov as part of the artillery gun crew participated in the destruction of a drone and an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of the AFU.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
