In recent days, businessman Ilon Musk, who took over as head of the new U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has received reminders from the White House that his authority has limitations. This is reported on February 5, NBC TV channel, citing its sources.

It is noted that aides to US President Donald Trump made it clear to Musk that he is an employee of the head of state's staff and must report to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

"I'm not sure that's what he wanted or expected. But yes, he has been reminded repeatedly that he has to report to the chief of staff," the media outlet quoted an unnamed Trump aide as saying.

According to the channel, that Musk expressed his agreement that Wiles is leading the White House team, and the latter, in turn, noted that she and the head of DOGE "very productive and friendly relations".

Earlier, on February 5, Bloomberg reported that Musk's team gained access to a secure room of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which stored documents closed from outsiders. The team from DOGE reportedly consisted of four people under the age of 30. While trying to enter the secured room, a conflict broke out between them and USAID security, during which one of the DOGE employees called Musk personally, and the latter threatened the guards to involve the U.S. Marshals Service if his team was not allowed to enter.

Prior to that, on February 3, Musk announced that he was launching a process to liquidate USAID. The entrepreneur also said that the agency was beyond repair and should be gotten rid of. At the same time, Trump called the heads of USAID radical madmen.
