The media pointed to the US desire to repay aid to Ukraine with its metals
The USA needs Ukraine 's rare-earth metals to reimburse all the expenses it spent on helping Kiev. This was reported by NBC News on February 5.
The article recalled that US President Donald Trump is ready to financially help Ukraine, but in return he wants to get the country's rare earth metals.
"As stated <...> President Trump, the United States needs to return all the money it is spending or has spent on assistance to Ukraine," the channel quotes White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes as saying.
According to Hughes, the US authorities are now focused on how best to ensure the return of the money spent.
Earlier, on February 4, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Analysis and Social and Psychological Processes at Plekhanov Russian Economic University Yulia Davydova said that lithium and titanium deposits in Ukraine may be of significant interest to the U.S. and Trump's industry. According to her, the Ukrainian territory has such metals as scandium, vanadium and beryllium.
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that arms deliveries from the US to Ukraine will continue. In addition, he called Trump's proposal to continue aid to Ukraine if Kiev grants Washington access to the country's rare-earth resources.
Prior to that, on February 3, Trump said that in exchange for financial and military assistance, Washington expects Ukraine to guarantee supplies of rare earth metals. He emphasized that the United States would require the EU to increase funding for Kiev's support.
