Operators of fiber-operated drones have outlined the benefits of such UAVs
Drones with fiber-optic cable control are invulnerable to Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) units as they cannot be "blinded" by electronic warfare equipment. Operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Center group told Izvestia how FPV drones with such a control method are used.
"Without fiber optics, it was not easy for us to work in situations when the enemy started jamming the drones with REB. Our control picture would fly off, and we would lose drones. Fiber optics is the salvation. You can't jam us with the E.E.B.S. anymore. At the same time, I can perform any maneuvers that are inaccessible to anti-tank missile systems. I can slow down, escort vehicles, hover and observe," said Private Alexei Biryukov, an instructor of the Center group.
A conventional FPV drone is equipped with a fiber optic coil, a quick and uncomplicated manipulation. Compact and relatively lightweight design allows you to wind several kilometers of fiber on the spool. Through a special connector, it is connected to a ground control device. When flying over the fiber optic cable there is an exchange of information between the drone and the operator, which allows you to make precise strikes on the enemy. For the same reason, such a device is not afraid of REB - radio control channels, which they jam, simply do not exist.
The fighters explained that the stock of fiber carried by the UAV eats up some of the potential combat load. But in return, the operator gets a stable signal during all phases of flight. Such a drone combines the best qualities of an FPV drone and a wire-guided ATGM.
