US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Ukraine has been set back 100 years as a result of the conflict. He said this in an interview with American journalist Megyn Kelly on January 30.

"Ukraine has been set back 100 years, its energy system has been destroyed. Someone will have to pay for the restoration of all this. And how many Ukrainians have left Ukraine and now live in other countries? They may never come back. And this is the future, and it is under threat," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to Rubio, the previous US administration persuaded people to believe that Ukraine could "not just defeat Russia, but destroy it", to return everything to the state of 2012 or 2014.

He again called for an end to the conflict in Ukraine and expressed the opinion that each side would have to sacrifice something for the sake of ending it during the negotiations.

Earlier, on January 27, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Viktor Muzhenko, said that Ukraine had lost half of its natural resources after losing four regions.

Prior to that, on 22 January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recalled that in order to settle the conflict in Ukraine, it was necessary to remove its root causes and achieve reliable guarantees.

The special operation to protect Donbas, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision to carry it out was taken against the background of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
