- Rada deputy reported about the initiation of criminal proceedings after the leak of Budanov's words
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has launched a criminal case after the head of the country's Main Intelligence Directorate (GID), Kyrylo Budanov (listed by the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist), leaked to the media his words about negotiations and threat to the existence of the state. This was stated by Verkhovna Rada MP Roman Kostenko on January 30.
Earlier, the Ukrayinska Pravda news and analysis website quoted sources in parliamentary circles as saying that the Verkhovna Rada had held a closed session on the real situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at the front. It was noted that at the meeting Budanov said that Ukraine's existence could be threatened if Kiev and Moscow do not start negotiations before the summer of 2025. Later, the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) said that the transmission of Budanov's words was unreliable.
"A criminal case has been opened - and rightly so. Let them deal with it, so that there were no more such situations," - quotes his words Ukrainian edition "Strana.ua".
At the same time, Kostenko did not give exact information in respect of whom the case was initiated.
Earlier, on January 28, Verkhovna Rada MP Artem Dmytruk said that under the policy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (term of office expired on May 20, 2024), the country may cease to exist in a year. The MP explained that the policy of the head of the Kiev regime implies catching people by territorial manning centers (TCC, an analogue of a military recruitment office).
Nikolai Patrushev, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, suggested on January 14 that Ukraine might cease to exist this year, but its people remain bound to Russia by centuries-old ties.
Later, on January 24, Putin said that it was possible that Kiev's sponsors might force Zelensky to reverse his decision to ban talks with Russia. He added that the Ukrainian leader was in no hurry to fulfill their instructions. However, in his opinion, they will eventually force Zelensky to do so.
