Russian David Akhmedov called his idol the 16th world chess champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, whom he beat in the online tournament Title Tuesday. He made the corresponding statement in a conversation with Izvestia on January 29.

"My idol, unequivocally, is precisely Magnus Carlsen, because the gorgeous game shows for many years," the 14-year-old Russian shared.

Akhmedov called the weekly online tournament very serious and noted that "solid players" participate in it. According to him, only chess players who have already received a rank can participate. He shared that he earned the title of FIDE Master, which is awarded by the International Chess Federation for life.

He faced Carlsen in the second round. The young man noted that he clearly did not prepare, as the chance of getting to the round was small. Akhmedov specified that he was just practicing, gaining experience by playing games.

Anna, the chess player's mother, shared that David had been attending the section since he was five years old. According to her, the boy's successes were observed already a month after attending the chess school.

"Then the coaches said that it was impossible to kick him out of the classes, already started the next groups. His coach the very first, children's, <...> expressed the observation that he could spend hours in the chess club," she noted.

Anna added that already at the age of seven the boy won one of the stages of the Russian Chess Cup in St. Petersburg and became one of the finalists of the tournament among 80 athletes.

Akhmedov had defeated the Norwegian chess player in an online tournament the previous day. He played with white pieces. Carlsen surrendered on the 56th move. At the moment the Norwegian's rating is 2831.
