The owner of Volgoneft-239 claimed that the tanker was intentionally run aground
The crew intentionally grounded the stern of the tanker Volgoneft-239 on the shoal near Cape Panagia in the Krasnodar Territory. Volgatransneft, the owner of the vessel, told TASS on January 29.
The ship's crew made such a decision in order to possibly prevent the spillage of fuel oil, which remained in the tanks after the wreck. In addition, it contributed to saving the lives of the crew members.
Earlier in the day, the Krasnodar region operative headquarters reported that the stern of the tanker "Volgoneft-239" began to prepare for disposal. It is specified that the process of dismantling of internal finishing was carried out, also things were taken out of the vessel.
On Monday, January 27, it was reported about the full completion of cleaning of tanks and stern compartments from fuel oil. Specialists began to develop documentation for the disposal of this part of the ship, which sits aground at Cape Panagia in the Temryuksky district of the Krasnodar Territory. Before that, on January 23, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov said that the Russian government will transfer 1.5 billion rubles to reimburse the costs incurred in the process of eliminating the consequences of the wreck of the two ships.
Tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024 due to bad weather. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
In addition, on January 3, an oil slick was found in Sevastopol at the entrance to the Balaklava Bay. The next day the city declared a state of emergency of regional character. Municipal emer gencies were also declared in the Chernomorsky district in the west of Crimea.
