Soldiers of the TOS-2 "Tosochka" heavy flamethrower system of the Center group of troops have destroyed a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction of the special military operation (SMO) by hitting militants' positions with thermobaric shells. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 28.

It is reported that in order to support the offensive actions of the assault units in the Krasnoarmeysk direction, the TOS-2 calculation went to the firing position, where it aimed the unit at the target and with the help of the fire control system performed a volley of shells at enemy positions at a distance of about 6 kilometers.

"We hit the enemy's manpower. The task was accomplished, everything without incident, everything exactly on time. We came back and put the vehicle in place," said platoon commander Lt. Viktor Mayorov.

At the same time, adjustments and control of target engagement were carried out in real time by the group's unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The agency noted that "Tosochka", as well as its analogues of the previous generation "Solntsepek" and "Buratino", is designed to support infantry, tanks, defeat firing positions, disable lightly armored vehicles and enemy transport. In this case, its ammunition of 18 thermal shells creates a temperature of thousands of degrees Celsius in an area of up to 6 g, and in the epicenter of the defeat a sharp pressure drop is formed.

Earlier, on January 17, the crew of the TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system of the Radiation Chemical and Biological Defense (RCBZ) unit of the All-Russian Army of the "West" group of forces destroyed a platoon stronghold and shelters of the AFU in the special operation zone. The shooting took place at night at a distance of about 6 kilometers.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
