Concern Kalashnikov has created two new modifications of the AK-12 assault rifle - shortened and small-sized, the models will be shown for the first time at the IDEX-2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi (UAE) in February. This was reported by the company's press service on January 27.
"Concern Kalashnikov will exhibit for the first time the latest 5.45-mm AK-12 shortened assault rifle (AK-12K) and 5.45-mm AK-12 small-sized assault rifle (AK-12SK) at the IDEX 2025 international exhibition of weapons and defense technologies, which will be held from February 17 to 21 in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)," the statement said.
The modifications have improved ergonomic, technical and operational parameters, the press service noted. They are designed for the 5.45x39mm cartridge and are intended to destroy enemy personnel.
"The capacity of AK-12K and AK-12SK magazines is 30 rounds. The rifles are equipped with a low-noise firing device (LFD) weighing no more than 0.8 kg," the concern said.
The length of the AK-12K assault rifle in the fighting position is 810 mm, weight - 3.4 kg. The length of the AK-12SK is 750 mm, mass - 3.2 kg.
The weapon is modernized based on the experience of use in special operations.
In December 2023, it was announced that the first batch of AK-12 assault rifles, modernized based on the experience of special operations, would be delivered to Russian troops. In the same month, the concern reported that the AK-12 was adopted by the internal affairs agencies, and over the past year, deliveries of the assault rifle almost doubled.
Later, on August 30, 2024, the concern reported that an improved version of the Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle was adopted for service with the Rosgvardiya. It was noted that the AK-12 model is the pinnacle of development of the entire AK system.
