Supercam unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) units of the All-Russian Army of the Zapad group of forces have uncovered camouflaged military equipment and temporary deployment points of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) units in the zone of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday, January 25.

Modern drones are equipped with a powerful camera and thermal imager, which allows surveillance of camouflaged targets. The drones are used to determine the coordinates of AFU military equipment, fortified areas and other enemy facilities, and then the data is transmitted to artillerymen for striking.

The footage provided by the Defense Ministry shows a Supercam drone taking to the air and conducting reconnaissance of the area. As a result of the reconnaissance, camouflaged AFU equipment was detected and an artillery salvo was soon launched at certain coordinates, successfully destroying the target.

The chief of the Superkam UAV crew with the call sign Radon said that during the period of use in the SSO zone with the help of these drones many enemy vehicles were destroyed, including those supplied to the AFU by Western allies. Thus, the American-made Patriot surface-to-air missile system (SAM), Vampire and HIMARS multiple rocket launchers (MLRS), Caesar and PALADIN self-propelled artillery systems (SAU) were eliminated.

"The entire NATO bloc is helping our adversaries, so we have to study the enemy's equipment," Radon explained.

"Supercam" is a high-tech drone whose flight is virtually silent thanks to an electric motor. If the AFU spots the Supercam, the operators know how to keep the drone and return it intact. This is facilitated by the high controllability of the drone.

Earlier, on January 24, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that calculations of nomadic guns of artillery paratroopers from Ulan-Ude hit a stronghold with a unit of AFU infantry in the border areas of Kursk Region, which was detected by Russian reconnaissance with the help of a UAV in one of the occupied settlements.

The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
