The situation in Transnistria amid a shortage of energy resources remains grave, with gas reserves enough for about two days, President of the unrecognized republic Vadim Krasnoselsky said on January 24.

"In a couple of days, we will literally run out of the gas that remains in the pipe, and it will be very hard without it," he said in an interview with Rossiya-24 TV channel.

According to Krasnoselsky, in some apartments the temperature has dropped to 10 degrees Celsius, and it is especially hard for people who need social support, including the elderly and the lonely.

The DMR head said that gas supplies could be resumed "even tomorrow", but the Moldovan authorities are preventing them. At the same time, Chisinau blames Russia for the situation, which did everything possible to ensure the supply.

He expressed the opinion that the Moldovan authorities delay the processes for political reasons, despite Tiraspol's consent to the supplies through the Moldovagaz company.

Earlier, on January 20, Krasnoselsky said that Transnistria was ready for supplies through Moldovagaz at Chisinau's request. Notification of no objections to such a scheme was handed over, and Tiraspoltransgaz guaranteed payment.

On January 19, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that she considers gas supplies from Russia to Transnistria illegal because they violate anti-Russian sanctions. She also linked the assistance to the DMR to the condition of withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from there.

Gas supplies from Russia to Moldova and Transnistria stopped on January 1 due to Ukraine 's refusal to extend the agreement on transit through its territory and debts of the Moldovan side to Gazprom. In mid-January, it became known that Russia was ready to provide assistance to the DMR and start humanitarian gas supplies.
