French Defense Minister denies knowledge of Russia's "plans" to attack Europe
The statement by EU diplomatic chief Kai Kallas about Russia's alleged "plans" for an attack is not supported by any intelligence, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on January 23.
"There is no intelligence to suggest that there are plans to attack EU countries in the short term," he said in an interview with LCI television, a recording of which was published on his YouTube channel.
Lecornu emphasized that precision is required in such matters.
Earlier, on January 22, Kallas said at the annual conference of the European Defense Agency that the intelligence services of some EU countries claim that Russia is allegedly preparing to attack Europe in the next three to five years.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed the opinion that Kallas' militaristic rhetoric speaks of Brussels' confusion before the administration of US President Donald Trump. Russia's unfounded accusations are used to "glue" European unity together, the diplomat emphasized.
The West regularly stirs up hysteria among the citizens of its countries, warning of an allegedly imminent war with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that nothing of the sort is in the country's plans.
