Rosgvardiya units destroyed a booby-trapped mine in the Belgorod region
Servicemen of the 116th "Steel" brigade of the Rosgvardia, conducting engineering reconnaissance in the border area of Belgorod Region, have discovered an anti-tank mine TM-62M, which was installed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with the help of a quadrocopter. About it on January 24 reports the press service of the agency.
"With observance of the necessary safety measures, the mine was destroyed," - reported there.
The Rosgvardia said that the AFU use heavy quadrocopters to plant mines as a rule at night. They plant various types of munitions, including anti-tank and anti-personnel mines with magnetic detonators, so-called "joniks". It detonates the mine when an object approaches it at a distance of up to 1 meter.
As part of counter-terrorist measures and the current counter-terrorist operation (CTO) regime, the Rosgvardeys continue demining the Belgorod region. About 10-12 anti-tank and anti-personnel mines are found there every week, an officer of the engineering-sapper unit said. They are destroyed with small arms.
Earlier, on January 21, it was reported that engineers of the Rosgvardiya disarmed more than 400,000 rounds of ammunition and 55 tons of explosives since the beginning of the special military operation. Servicemen and employees of engineering units of the Rosgvardia regularly inspect roads and infrastructure facilities. They are assisted in their task by cynologists with service dogs and drone operators, the department's press service said.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
