Trump accused Zelensky of obstructing the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine
An agreement to resolve the conflict in Ukraine has not been reached because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expires in May 2024, "wanted to go to war." US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News on January 23.
"Look, Zelensky decided to reach out to a much larger country, a much more powerful country. He shouldn't have done that because we could have made a deal. I could have made that deal so easily. And Zelensky decided he wanted to go to war," Trump said.
The US president noted that Russia had about 30,000 army tanks when the armed conflict began, while Zelensky had almost none.
"You don't fight with such things. Then we started pouring in equipment, pouring in, pouring in, pouring in, pouring in. <...> but in the end, this conflict that must be solved," he concluded.
Before that, Donald Trump said he wanted to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine. The leader of the United States noted that he intended to see the President of the Russian Federation to stop the waste of millions of lives.
Also on January 22, Trump expressed hope that his team is already making great efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The US President promised to put an end to the conflict, but did not provide details.
On the same day, the head of Ukraine admitted the possibility of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin if Trump gives Kiev security guarantees. According to Zelensky, the only question for him is what guarantees we are talking about, and he wants to have this understanding before the talks.
