- The Beatles have been nominated for the first time since 1977 at the BRIT Awards music awards
The Beatles are among the nominees for the BRIT Awards in the Song of the Year category for the first time since 1977 with their song Now and Then. This was reported by The Independent newspaper on January 23.
The category, which has become the most diverse in terms of genre, will feature 14 nominees in addition to The Beatles, including Coldplay with Feels Like I'm Falling in Love, pop singer Dua Lipa (Training Season) and Artemas (I Like the Way You Kiss Me).
In addition, pop artist Charli XCX won five awards for her album Brat in the Artist of the Year and Album of the Year categories. The song You're Christmas to Me by singer Sam Ryder, which came second at Eurovision 2022, was also nominated for an award. It is only the fourth time in UK history that a festive song has been shortlisted.
The Beatles released the song Now and Then on November 2, 2023 with vocals by musician John Lennon. All members of the band participated in its development. The composition was released for the first time since 1996's Real Love. The song was recorded using artificial intelligence.
This song was originally recorded by Lennon in the 1970s. In 1994, the musician's widow Yoko Ono gave the demo track to Paul McCartney. The band attempted to complete the recording, but they were unsuccessful due to technical limitations.
Also, the musicians of The Beatles released a music video for the last song Now and Then. Inserts with John Lennon's vocals were added to the composition. The video included footage from different years with the soloists of the band. Also in the clip there is a six-second previously unknown archival video of The Beatles.
Rock band The Beatles, founded in 1960, gained popularity three years later when they released the single Please Please Me/Ask Me Why, thus giving rise to a global phenomenon - Beatlemania. In 1970, the collective broke up.
Lennon, who was the band's songwriter, vocalist and rhythm guitarist, died in 1980 at the age of 40. Mark David Chapman shot him several times and fatally wounded him as he entered his New York City apartment building on Dec. 8.
