Antonov pointed to Trump's disregard for the principles of diplomacy
US President Donald Trump has disregarded the principles of diplomacy by addressing the people of Russia and its President Vladimir Putin via his social network Truth Social, where he demanded an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by former Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov on the air of Channel One on January 23.
"He (Trump - Ed.) neglected the principles, the tasks of diplomacy, when it would have been necessary to sit down carefully and quietly talk and understand what concerns the Russian Federation has, what should be done in order not to remove, at least, but to mitigate Russian concerns," he commented.
At the same time, Antonov was angered by the wording of Trump's address, who wrote about doing the Russian president a "favor" on his part.
"He addressed, said a good phrase "I do not wish anything bad to the Russian people, I am doing a favor to the Russian president." It's amazing at all, we don't need any favors from anyone," the former ambassador concluded.
On January 20, Trump was inaugurated, after which he reiterated that he plans to meet with Putin as soon as possible and discuss the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis a priority for Trump. According to him, "part of the preparatory work" has begun.
Earlier, on January 22, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that Trump instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
