US President Donald Trump said he would like to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters on January 23.

"I would really like to meet with President Putin soon to put an end to this conflict," Trump said via video link on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The United States leader said he intended to see the Russian president to stop the wasting of millions of lives.

Earlier in the day, Donald Trump expressed hope that his team was already making great efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The US President promised to put an end to the conflict, but did not provide details.

On January 20, Trump was inaugurated, after which he reiterated that he plans to meet with Putin as soon as possible and discuss the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis a priority for Trump. According to him, "part of the preparatory work" has begun.

Earlier, on January 22, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that Trump instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
