- In Britain, a teenager who killed three girls has been sentenced to 52 years in prison
Teenager Axel Rudakubana was sentenced to 52 years in prison for the murder of three girls in the town of Southport in the UK. This was reported on January 23 by the TV channel Sky News.
It is specified that the teenager entered the dance studio with a kitchen knife and attacked three girls. He was detained when he was near the body of one of the victims.
An analysis of his electronic devices later revealed that he was obsessed with violence and ideas of genocide.
The TV station reported that the young man received a life sentence on 13 different counts such as murder and attempted murder of children and adults. Rudakubana will only be able to apply for parole after 52 years. It is noted that the judge did not have the option to impose a life sentence because he was only 17 years old at the time of the crime.
The convict himself was not present when the verdict was announced as he had earlier tried to disrupt the proceedings by shouting about feeling unwell.
"Rudakubana told his lawyer that he had chest pains, was too ill to continue and wanted to see a paramedic, but the judge said two paramedics found him capable of continuing," the publication stated.
The attack of a teenager with a knife in the town of Southport was reported on July 29, 2024. According to the latest reports, three children were killed in the incident, while another five children and two adults injured in the attack of the teenager were in critical condition.
Later on July 30, riots broke out in Southport. People brought flowers, balloons and stuffed toys. Many came with children. At the same time near the city mosque there were clashes with police.
Protesters set fire to a police van and attacked the police. The protesters pulled cobblestones from the sidewalk to throw them at the police.
