The State Duma named a condition for the lifting of sanctions
The West needs a reason to lift anti-Russian sanctions. This was stated by Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, on Thursday, January 23.
According to the deputy, much in the question of the removal of anti-Russian sanctions by the West depends on US President Donald Trump and his entourage. She added that the new American leader will not be able to cancel some decisions of his predecessor Joe Biden, as it is quite difficult to do.
"Just to take and cancel sanctions and admit that we have been making things worse for ourselves all these years, shooting ourselves in the foot, no one will want to, so it is clear that when the peace agreement is signed, agreements are reached, then sanctions can be removed. But the U.S. will not remove everything at once, I'm sure, maybe they will start with some easier options for themselves," the parliamentarian said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.
Earlier, on January 22, Trump threatened to raise taxes and impose new sanctions on Russian exports to the United States, if the conflict in Ukraine is not resolved soon, reports IA Regnum. The American president called the "deal" itself a favor he was doing for the Russian Federation, Moscow 24 reported .
In response to such statements by the American leader, Duma deputy from Crimea Mikhail Sheremet called on the US President not to talk to Russia in the language of force. He noted that Trump can influence the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, but so far, except for loud statements, there have been no substantive proposals from him, according to the website kp.ru.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that Trump instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
