Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said after an emergency meeting of the Security Council on January 23 that a certain "group of people" was behind the financing of the planned protests in the country. A video clip of his statement was published on his official YouTube channel.

The day before, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo scheduled an emergency meeting of the Security Council for January 23 due to the fact that the country's security services received information about the risk of overthrowing the government. At the time, Fitzo noted that "foreign experts" had arrived in the country who might try to carry out a state transfer through civil disobedience.

"The sad thing is that behind all this is the structure of organizations and the corresponding financial flows. This fact alone confirms that this is not a spontaneous activity, but a plan of a controlled group of people who coordinate their actions with each other, plan activities among themselves and who unfortunately also demonstrate the reality of attempts to escalate this atmosphere in society," Pellegrini said.

According to the Slovak leader, the protests being prepared in the country bear signs of spontaneous expression of citizens' discontent. In addition, Pellegrini added that the information about the organization by certain persons of actions abusing the population of Slovakia is confirmed.

He noted that any protest must take place within the law without jeopardizing property or human health.

Pellegrini emphasized that Slovakia, like any other country, cannot accept the actions of a group of people whose activities are aimed at overthrowing the government through pressure and provoking a political crisis for their own purposes.

"I want to say clearly that the situation in Slovakia is serious," the head of state concluded.

On January 22, Fitzo said at a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that the Slovak opposition was preparing a "Maidan" in the country and this was being done as part of a long organized operation.

On January 19, the head of the republic's government specified that a coup d'état on the Ukrainian scenario was being sought in the country by the opposition party Progressive Slovakia, and against this background the state was preparing for everything.
